York is an amazing place to visit no matter the time of year, but our budget hotel in York particularly love January, when the weather is crisp, the rush of Christmas is over and of course, the sales are on. Just in case you need a reason to visit this month our York hotel has four.

A historian’s idea of heaven

With a whole array of museums, York is the perfect place to visit if you love all things historical. York dates back almost 2000 years so come rain or shine you will find an attraction of historical significance to enjoy. Wander through time with a walk around the Roman city walls, nosy in the Viking archaeological dig site and explore of the York Castle Museum. For a more interactional experience, we would highly recommend Jorvik Viking Centre or The York Dungeon.

Shoppers delight

York is a shopper’s paradise with small boutiques and high street stores in the city centre, designer brands at the Designer Outlet and a number of fantastic retail parks all with easy access via the park and ride. For some old-world charm, our budget York hotel recommends taking a stroll down the Shambles where you can treat yourself with all things chocolate, sweets and of course indulge in York fudge and explore the wizarding world of Harry Potter in one of TWO shops dedicated to the boy who lived.

Did someone say, “gin o’clock”?

Did you know there at 365 bars inside the city walls alone? No matter what your tipple of choice, York has something for you. Gin lover? Check out the Evil Eye with its eye-watering number of speciality gins to try. Beer more your thing? Head to The Maltings where you will find great beer and great food. Wine connoisseur? Look no further than Plonkers Wine Bar, with their wonderful selection of wines from around the world.

Food glorious food

York is also home to some fantastic eateries. No matter how hungry you are there will be something to satisfy your appetite. Grab a delicious hot roast pork sandwich from Hog Roast or a divine afternoon tea from Betty’s Tearoom. If you’re visiting for a special occasion be sure to head to Melton’s where you will find fine local produce and a relaxed atmosphere. They are often busy, so we do recommend booking to avoid disappointment.

Food glorious food

No matter the reason for your trip, York is the ideal place for your last-minute getaway this January. Our budget hotel in York is the perfect base to explore everything the city has to offer, with easy access via the park and ride to the city centre and surrounding areas.

Holiday Inn Express York Reviews

James,

Bathgate

From arrival to departure (3 days) the staff have been excellent, even when I arrived back early, they always were on hand to ask if everything was okay, and gave complimentary cookies and coffee. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Neil,

Gibraltar

A friendly Yorkshire welcome greets guests here which is a good start.
I've stayed in several Holiday Inns in Florida on business and this beats them all.
Good clean room with all you need for a short stay. I'm always tempted to go full English breakfast when away from home and I can say that the ingredients are top end.
We will definitely return next time we visit York.

David,

Macomb, Michigan

The staff here is super helpful and really made us feel welcome. Chris the manager sets the tone. We needed some adapters for our electronics and he spent a lot of time testing out adapters. Then I mentioned having trouble with the GPS and he even went out to the car to try and figure out what was wrong. We have found that in Yorkshire the people are extremely friendly and helpful and this hotel was too. Whenever I asked for anything, like trouble with heating, or opening the windows, the staff was up within minutes. Chris the manager even managed to get us one of the larger rooms, and worked out the best possible rate. Would recommend this hotel highly.

Andy,

Lincoln

Stayed here with a group of friends on a stag weekend which tied in with York Races. Hotel clean, breakfast very good choice and all nice and fresh. Spoke to the manager complimented him on the excellent staff. Even great to see the Manager ‘hands on’ during busy periods. Would 100% say here again.

Richie,

Redcar

Stayed over night whilst in York. Nice friendly staff, room warm and nice and clean. Had breakfast in the morning and couldn't complain about anything. This is a really nice place to stay, cannot fault it in any way.

Aman,

Watford

Stayed at the hotel in November as we were visiting family in York. Great stay, easy check in, lovely room and the shower was great! Breakfast was varied and had everything you would want from a buffet. Very pleased and would recommend to others!

Heather,

Norwich

The staff were very helpful and informative about the local area. Gave us a print out of the city car parks and park and ride. room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good and had quite a lot of choice.

Tony,

Bridlington

For a very modest price we had a very comfortable room with all amenities. The breakfast was an unexpected delight. The staff were attentive and quality and choice of food a very pleasant surprise. Definitely would stay again and recommend to anyone.

Edith,

Middlesbrough

Fantastic little overnight stay, excellent value for money. Breakfast included & children stay free. Great base for all shopping centres in York and surrounding area. The Staff are lovely, helpful & welcoming too.

James,

Harlington

Nice hotel that is on the outskirts of York but only a few miles into the historic centre. Rooms are clean and bright with good showers and WiFi. I use this hotel when up on business as its good value.

Kath,

Newcastle

We stayed here on a trip to Castle Howard, which is quite close by. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff and given directions to our room and breakfast was explained to us for the following day. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and provided everything we needed. We all had a good nights sleep and the beds were very comfortable with a choice of firm or soft pillows. The WiFi was fine and worked without a problem. We were very impressed with the breakfast in the morning as it is included free. There was plenty of cereal, yoghurts, muffins, bread for toast, croissants, bacon, sausage, beans and scrambled egg as well as a nice drinks machine for the tea and coffee. We would highly recommend staying here and will no doubt book again when we are back in the area. Couldn't ask for more at the price charged.

Phil,

Derby

It is always with slight trepidation that you book in somewhere you are not aware of and have no previous experience off. This was a last minute booking and we took advantage of a reduced rate offer including breakfast.

From the minute we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and directions were given to our room.

The cleanliness was impeccable and the room layout excellent.

Rising from our very comfortable bed we headed down for breakfast which is buffet style. Superb in every respect.

We have stayed in hotels which offer lesser service at a premium price and we would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and look forward to visiting again.
